CORRECTIONS
Because of an editing error, “Young and
Hungry” [January] incorrectly stated that
Kirkland & Ellis client Merisant Worldwide,
Inc., the maker of the sweetener Equal, used
the slogan “Made from sugar so it tastes like
sugar.” In fact, the slogan was used by McNeil Nutritionals, LLC, which markets the
sweetener Splenda. Merisant was represented by Kirkland in a 2007 trial in which
Merisant challenged the Splenda slogan. The
company reached a confidential settlement
with McNeil.
In the same story we misstated the number
of intellectual property litigation associates at
Kirkland. The correct number is 141.
In “An All-Around Champion” [January],
we reported that Wilmer Cutler Pickering
Hale and Dorr won a $489 million international arbitration award for two subsidiaries
of Shell Brands International AG. In fact,
Wilmer won the overturning of a Nicaraguan
court order that expropriated Shell’s intellectual property to satisfy an unrelated $489
million civil judgment.
Because of an editing error, we incorrectly reported in AmEx v. Visa USA et al. [Big
Suits, January] that Robert Scher had left
Foley & Lardner. Scher is still with the firm.
In “Lost in Translation” [Bar Talk, January], we incorrectly reported that Miguel
Miranda was formerly a partner at White &
Case. He was an associate at the firm.
The December Global Lawyer column,
“Uncommon Law,” incorrectly stated that
the International Centre for the Settlement
of Investment Disputes (ICSID) was created
by the New York Convention of 1958. In fact,
ICSID was created by the Washington Convention of 1965.
We regret the errors.
CORRECTIONS POLICY

2. Although we welcome letters to the editor that are critical of our work, an aggrieved party need not have a
letter to the editor published for us to correct a mistake. We will publish corrections on our own and in our own
voice as soon as we are told about a mistake by anyone—our staff, an uninvolved reader, or an aggrieved
reader—and can confirm the correct information.
