EUROPEAN PATENT APPLICATIONS AND COMMUNITY TRADEMARKS
ACCORDING to official EPO statistics well over half of about 230,000 European Patent Applications in 2010 were filed by applicants residing outside the member states of the European Patent Convention. These
applicants were all represented by respective registered
European Patent Attorneys, however, the statistical data also
show that the predominant majority of such representatives
come from Western European countries, mostly from the
United Kingdom and Germany, only a fraction of such
applicants (under 1%) are represented by one of the almost
3,000 European Patent Attorneys residing in the countries
which have acceded to the EU in the last ten years.
